We draw upon several educators for our workshops, seminars, and courses, both in person and through their books and videos. These include Dr. Chike Akua, Dr. Lisa Delpit, Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III, Dr. Joyce King, Queen Taese, Dr. Itihari Toure, Dr. Gwen Williams and Dr. James C. Young.
The sessions are facilitated by Esi Madge Gill Willis, Ph.D. and Ido Jamar, Ph.D.
Esi Madge Gill Willis, Ph.D.
Nsoromma School Director and Co-Founder
Dr. Willis has been involved in education in many roles for over 35 years. She has been a classroom teacher, school psychologist, college professor, and teacher trainer. Her work has focused on understanding how children learn and on developing the best environment and teaching strategies to facilitate educational excellence for children of African descent. She has researched and published on the roles of culture and language in children's learning and on successful schools for our children.
She earned her A.B. in Psychology with Honors (Brown University), M.S. in Psychological Services in Education (University of Pennsylvania), and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology (Georgia State University, under the direction of Dr. Asa G. Hilliard III).
"Mama Esi," as her students call her, and her husband, Kwabena, have two grown children, Jehuti, a graduate of Nsoromma and a mechanical engineering graduate of North Carolina A&T, and Kisa, a graduate of Howard University.

Idorenyin (Ido) Jamar, the Math Psychologist, is a great asset to Nsoromma School. Ido has served on the faculty in Mathematics Education at the University of Pittsburgh and Bayero University (Kano, Nigeria) and has taught secondary mathematics in urban schools for over ten years. She received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Cognitive Psychology and an A.B. in Applied Mathematics, all from Brown University.
